Torbay Chess League
Coronavirus Update
After suspending all matches from 16th March 2020 until the end of the 2020-21 season, the Torbay Chess League resumed over-the-boad matches for the 2021-22 Season. However due to reduced participation by clubs and players, there were be just two Standardplay leagues and a knockout competition. For the 2022-23 season, there are three Standardplay leagues, a Rapidplay league and a knockout competition.
The Torbay Chess League runs inter-club competitions for chess clubs in South Devon, over an area that spans Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, the Torbay area (including Torquay, Paignton and Brixham), the South Hams (including Kingsbridge, Totnes, Ivybridge and Dartmouth) and Plymouth.
In the 2022-23 season the Torbay Chess League is running three Standardplay leagues, each for teams of four players:
- Division 1: no rating limits
- Division 2: maximum team rating under 6800
- Division 3: maximum team rating under 6400.
There is a knockout competition (the "White Knights Chemicals Knockout") for teams of six players with a maximum team rating of under 10,000.
Finally, there is a Rapidplay league for teams of four players with a maximum Rapidplay team rating of Under 7000.
The Torbay Chess League runs the ever popular Torbay Chess Congress in the Torquay/Paignton area, and the next congress is planned for 18th to 20th November 2022.
