TCL Matches for 2021-22 Season Completed
We are delighted that, despite the pandemic, all matches in this season's Torbay Chess League have been completed.
Division A turned into a close fight between South Hams, Newton Abbot A and Newton Abbot B. The final match - South Hams at home to Nwton Abbot A was going to be decisive, with the winning team becoming the champions. In the end, it was a 2-2 draw, and as a result Newton Abbot B became champions. Many congratulations to the Newton Abbot B team. Click here to view the full Division A league table.
Division B was an even closer contest, with Torbay Boys' Grammar School, South Hams and Newton Abbot all finishing on four match points. The title was therefore determined by game points, with TBGS and Sought Hams sharing the honours, each with 8½ game points. Well played all. Click here to view the full Division B league table
The White Knights Chemicals Knockout Cup was won by South Hams, who beat Newton Abbot at home in the semi-final (4-2) and TBGS away in the final (3½-2½). Congratulations to South Hams.
As we inched our way out of the pandemic, in the 2021-22 season fewer teams than normal chose to compete, and as a result there were fewer leagues than normal. We very much hope that the Torbay Chess League will be fully up to its normal strength in the 2022-23 season.
